The photos on this page are from my book "The Civil War Soldier - A Photographic Journey" . The concept of the book was to show what life was like for the common soldier in the Civil War if it could have been documented using modern camera technology. I wanted to maintain the feel of the 19th century photography so all images were shot in black and white and hand colored.

The Civil War was the most costly was Americans have fought. It was a nation divided. Over 3 million men left their homes , families and occupations to fight for the country and ideals they believed in and I wanted to give a photojournalistic view of what their lives and experiences were like.
