ay Carson is a professional photographer with over 25 years of experience. His career began in college where he spent three years as a writer, photographer and editor with the Daily Utah Chronicle. After graduating with a degree in photojournalism and history, he continued his career in a variety of photographic fields including, commercial product, wedding, portrait, news, editorial and fine art. He is presently the chief staff photographer for News and Public Affairs at the University of Florida, as well as a freelance wedding, commercial and editorial photographer. His photographs have appeared in numerous regional and national magazines as well as over 50 newspapers and with the Associated Press. In addition to his commercial and editorial work, he also specializes in photography of historical sites and reenactments in the United States.

Ray is also a professional hand colorist whose fine art photography has been exhibited in galleries in Utah, Florida and North Carolina.

He is the author/photographer of The Civil War Soldier - A Photographic Journey, published by Stackpole Books. The book chronicles the experiences and lifestyle of the average Civil War soldier using quotes from original soldiers diaries and memoirs. It features over 120 black and white and hand colored photographs taken by Ray over a period of ten years at historical reenactments throughout the United States. Ray is also the principal photographer for the book Gainesville: Alive With Opportunity
, which features over 100 of his photographs of the north Florida area.
